Synthetic
Having a go at product visualisation, I was going through a synth stage!
A little practice project producing an accurate 3D render of a real world object. I found a little synthesizer online and thought the mixture of interesting shapes and variety of different materials would be fun to recreate.
I was mainly working from some reference pictures of the synth from the AKAI website and using the product manual to get the dimensions correct. The shaders were all created in Redshift but I UV’d the top of the geometry and created a texture in Photoshop for all the branding and fonts on the surface. Some of the keys glow when toggled so I worked with an emission shader to add a little bounce light to the surrounding geometry.
I used a library of surface imperfections to add a few small details such as dust, fingerprints and scratches to rough up the surface just a little to add to the realism and give the synth a slightly used look. I’m really happy with how this one turned out. I found using the right amount of depth of field in the final render helped to sell the scale.
As always, a tidy scene file, is a happy scene file!
